Found this site with appliance repair information. It has been excellent!
Maytag MTF2456AEW (top freezer type) stopped cooling well a couple of days ago. Unit is about 7 years old. Condenser coils were dirty (this seems to happen about every two years)and I cleaned and verified compressor was running ok. Waited a day but unit was still not cooling well even on highest setting. Looking at this site it suggested that it might be icing up. Evaporator coil was a solid block of ice. Defrosted it with a hair dryer and put it back in service. Figure I have bought a couple of days. Checked the defrost heater element and it measured out at 31 ohms.... sounds like this is typical and means it's probably ok. It sounds like unless I start hearing the defrost heater come on in the next 24 hours (and it's always been loud when it works) then according to this website it probably makes sense to just go ahead and replace the heater thermostat and timer. Sounds like if it is not bad it has a limited service life....... Anyone know where the defrost timer is located on this model? Dave |

Hi dave99,
You'll find the defrost timer located in the center of the plastic control housing mounted on the top of the refrigerator section. Here is the part #68233-3. Rick
