Default Maytag washer model LAT9406AAE shaking

This washer was purchased October 1997 and has performed perfectly until this past week. It dances or walks all over the floor when in the spin cycle with or without load.

I pulled the front cover and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Springs intact, no drips or leaks - nothing.
Here is the curve ball - it hardly shakes at all with the front cover OFF! Put the cover back on and the walking commences
.
However the tub was still shaking as if with an off balance load. This was without clothes or water. Checked the level and it was OK. The washer has been in the same spot for these nine years.

What do you suggest that might be the problem?

Thanks, Dooger

Hi Jake and thanks for the quick reply. Also the reference to parts and instructions.
I noted that the schematic part number 8 mentioned series 10. I checked my serial number and found that my dishwasher is series 18.
Will the same damper kit work and solve my problem.
Thanks in advance.

Your dishwasher? You mean your washer?

Yes, it will work the same for series 18.
