Hello,
We have a Maytag fridge (about 8 years old) and the ice maker is not working properly. I don't know exactly what happens, but the tray (where the finished ice cubes fall) is getting full of water and making a giant ice cube. It seems like the water is flowing straight through or bypassing the part that makes the actual cubes. I haven't been able to tell if the water fills in all at once or little by little. I don't know when the water quits flowing. We didn't notice anything sounding unusual so I'm thinking the water just flowed in a little at a time. Once the giant cube was made, the wire switch was pressed up and turned off the water. There was some water overflow in the bottom of the freezer that we had to mop up. Where do I start troubleshooting? Thanks in advance for your help. FatNinja |

If you have a modular icemake, remove the cover and ,assuming the mold has no ice in it, jumper l to v for 8 to 10 seconds. The mold should fill with water.
If it passes that test your icemaker is bad. |

Thanks Jeff and SCM. This info helped. I was able to jumper the L and V and see that the water was totally missing the mold tray. I turned of the breaker and removed the ice maker module and found that the water tube and the little trough to the mold was iced up so no water was making it into the mold. The water ended up clogging the drain behind the inside rear panel of the freezer and I was getting water inside my fridge by the crisper drawers periodically.
It seems like it is taking forever for it to make ice now. I don't think the mold is filling up all the way. Can you briefly explain what triggers the module to know that the ice is done? What engages the motor to expell the ice? From what I have read on your site, it appears that once the motor turns on, ad heater starts. once the motor has turned a 1/2 cycle, then the water is engaged to run during the last 1/2 cycle. I noticed there is an adjustment screw for setting the water level. so here are my questions: What triggers the motor to run once ice is in the mold? How do I calibrate the water level adjustment screw? Finally, the ice tastes funny. How do I get rid of the nasty taste? Thanks for your help. Your site is awesome! |
