Maytag mav7000aww Top loading washer loud clicking noise during spinning
I have a 1999 Maytag Top loading washer model number mav7000aww.
The washer is making a reall loud sound when it spins that sounds like "da da da da"
If I tilt the washer to get to the bottom, and take off the belt and let the motor rotate by itself then the sound is gone. It sounds like when the washer is rotating/spinning it scratches something at a certain point on the cycle/circle, and I confirmed that by rotating the transmition shaft from below by hand (actually the belt that connects the motor and transmition shaft together). Every time I rotate the transmition shaft counterclockwise, I hear and feel a scratch at the same location. If I turn it clockwise, then I don't hear anything.
Then I tried by tilting the washer so the front panel is on floor so the washer is flat. When I take off the belt, and rotate the transmission pulley then there is no scratch. If I put the belt on and rotate it, I will hear the scraping.
Does anyone have any idea or suggestions to what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!
Alan

Its either something stuck in between the spin basket and outer tub, or you have a bad thrust bearing, brake lining or stator.
Here is your thrust bearing Assembly:

Here is a help link about it:

Hi Jake:
Upon close inspection I found out the scraping noise is actually coming from the drain pump (one of the 3 wheel the belt is attached to on the bottom). When I turn the pump, I can hear and feel the scraping and the wheel of the pump connected to the belt on the botto feels it's not tighten so I can move it up and down. If I push the wheel back in it's place so it's level, the the noise would go away, but as soon as I connect the belt onto it, the tension of the belt would make it off balance and so would the scraping noise come back.
Is there any way to tighten or adjust the wheel of the pump, or do I have to replace it?
If I need to replace it, can you point me to the instruction on removing and replacing the drain pump?
Thanks again for all your help!

Glad you found it was your pump making this noise.
You can order a new water pump here for your model:
Drain pump assembly w/pulley
Here is a help link that will show you how to access your water pump, then you just remove the 2 screws that bolt it to your washer base, and remove the hoses and install the new one:

maybe a coin in pump
I had the same problem. you can remove the tubes/pipes and you may find a coin or screw in the pump. use a magnet to remove.
