Default Problem with Jenn air down draft slide in range.

I was wondering if anyone has an idea how I can inprove the flow of air from the grill on a Model (jes9860aas) jenn air range. When grilling the smoke from whatever I am grilled is not adequately ventilated. The duct work is about 6 feet long and six inches in diameter. There is no obstruction in the line. I have ordered a new motor for the blower but I don't think it will improve the vent problem. I do know that motor in the stove is only operating on one speed. It is suppose to be two speeds. I am hoping that it is presently operating on the low speed but I think it is operating on high speed.
I thought about installing an inline power vent in the duct work. I was wondering if this would help. Any suggestions would be appreicated. Thanks, Jerr

Hi jerr462,

I've worked on quite a few jenn-air's and have found most air flow problems were due to a dirty filter or excessive grease build up on the motor and squiral cage.

Rick thanks for the reply on my jenn air downdraft problem. The filters are clean. I have taken out the filters and it does not correct the problem. The stove is just 13 months old.

Was it working ok and then stopped working or did it not work right from the begining.

Default Problem with Jenn air down draft system.

Hi: Rick

To answer your last question the down draft system has never work properly from the beginning. I have let the problem slide because we have been able to use the venting sytem from our microwave and stoves systems together to vent the smoke away from the grill. We have not used the grill very much and when we use it we only grill a couple of items. Then over Christmas we tried to grill several items and had smoke in the house.
I can stick my hand in the beginning of vent on top of the stove and feel very little air movement. I can hear the motor running but I am not sure if the motor is running fast enough.

The engineering on the vent system is terrible in my opinion. Having a separate blower away from the stove vent makes the hook up almost impossible. The lips on the stove vent and blower are not wide enough to accommodate fastening the expansion duct work together which adds to the hookup problem. I could go on for hours about the hookup of the ventilation system. The engineers at Maytag get an F on their design of the ventilation system in my opinion.
Thanks for your reply. Jerr

Jerr,

That's something we both agree with. I think thats the best it's going to do. Please keep in mind, I'm not there so I'm not 100% positive thats the answer. I'm going by what you said about your overhead vent system. The Jenn-air vent is only 1/2 or maybe 3/4 the power of a good overhead vent system. I know I'm not much help. If Jake or Jeff see this post they might know more than I do. Sorry

Rick
