Default Maytag PTB1954GR not cooling

My Maytag PTB1954GR has ceased to cool properly. There is an audible click, and the compressor starts to run, but for only 20-30 seconds, then stops with another audible click. After a couple of minutes, it repeats. In another thread, someone mentioned the run capacitor and overload relay. Could the run capacitor cause this problem, or is it more likely to be the overload relay? Or is it something else entirely? I would really appreciate any help.

Nope.

That is one possible trouble maker.

Clickiing on and off compressor:
Compressor
Start relay/overload
Low voltage ( extension cord )
None working condensor fan motor

These are likely most to least common.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the info. As for the relay/overload switch, I will test it this evening. If it is the relay/overload switch, is there any possibility the constant off/on could have damaged the compressor as well? The refrigerator is only a little over 5 years old. I would hate to spend the money to replace the switch, only to find out the compressor needs replaced as well. Thanks again for your help!

Yes....but you may not know until you try it out...I'll usually ohm the compressor windings and if they are intact I try another relay and have the amp meter ready to check the compressor current draw it if fires up and runs.
