Question Maytag Atlantis MAV6200AWW Not Spinning

I have a Maytag Atlantis washer and about a week ago it started making this insanely loud noise on the spin cycle. It was so loud that i could hear on the 3rd floor of my house and it is in the basement. I thought it was getting ready to take off. That night i put another load into the washer thinking that maybe i had overloaded it and it did not make the noise so i went to bed. When i went to switch out laundry the next morning the clothes did not spin but finished the cycle. My husband looked at it and said it seemed like it had slipped. He did some stuff to it and then it worked for one wash cycle and the next load it was loud again and the load after that it did not work again. I really need to fix my washer because i have a family of six with three girls who think it is a crime to not have all their clothes clean. Anybody have a clue what this could be. My husband thinks maybe it could be a bearing or the belt.

PLEASE HELP!

Yes, this sounds like your thrust bearing has gone bad.

Here is a new thrust bearing kit you can order:

Here is a help link for this:

Don't worry about the brake removal stuff or brake adjustment.

The new thrust bearing kit comes with very detailed instructions.

Not to steal your thread, But our atlantis is making about the same noise. When it first starts washing it makes a horrible noise. The center section where it turns and washes the clothes does not spin at all. But the outer tub will spin, does this sound like the same issue ?

Ours only makes sounds in the spin cycle when it works. Ours does not spin at all when it is not working and when it is working it is loud. All the other cycles work perfectly.
