Maytag MDB6000AWW Film and Residue Problem
Over the past few weeks, our dishwasher continues to have problems with a filmy residue after the wash is completed. This was manufactured in '99 and is the original dishwasher for this house we purchased in June of 2006. Our water definitely leans toward the hard side. I disassembled down to the filter assembly to discover that the filter had been completely overcome by hard water deposits. The screens were crusted over, and even the drain holes were pluged. I took the advice from previous posts and soaked all of the corroded parts in white vinegar for several hours. This worked great and I was able to get the majority of the filter cleared on the screens and drain holes. I also switched to a detergent with a higher phosphate %. 2 washes after the cleaning have definitely improved from where it was, but we still have several glasses that require hand washing to remove the film left behind. I am at a loss of what to do next. Should I replace with a new filter assembly? Is there anything else I should replace, or is it just time to get a new dishwasher due to the neglect of the previous owners, and the wear and tear the hardwater has had over 8 years?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
T

I also found a couple of other products and have purchased one of them to try. They are designed for areas with hard water.
One is a Jet Dry product called Glass Magic

The other one I purchased is called Lemi Shine

You can pick either one up at Wal-Mart. I will give the Lemi Shine a try and report back with my results.
