Default Hissing noise and a red-hot tube in the freezer

Have a several year old Maytag MSD2434GEW side by side that decided to start hissing 30 minutes ago. I traced the noise to the freezer side, and at the bottom of the freezer compartment, through an opening in the back wall, could see a red hot tube of some kind, hissing away. Dont know if there is a leak or if water was dropping on the hot tube. The freezer compartment was not cool at all. I unplugged the appliance and am letting it cool down. Thoughts?

Ok, this appears to be a water issue - the unit is now leaking water everywhere, which stopped once I shut off water to the unit. I believe the water was dripping onto the defrost heater before, causing the hissing noice. Any tips on tracing this leak?

I have good news, this is completely normal, you just happen to catch it in the defrost cycle.
