Hi,

My Maytag dryer (Model # is: Maytag DE608) is a pretty old one. Now it won't turn (acctually it turned a little bit and stopped) and the timer button cannot be pressed down.
I did some test. When I lose the belt, the motor turned and the timer button could be pressed down. Then I took the drum out. I tried turning roller, pulley and motor with hand. One of the back rollers, pulley and motor were hard to turn. I oiled them and put the drum back. Still, whenever I fastened the belt, the motor glided a little bit then stopped.
I am not so sure where the problem is. It seems the motor is OK. Please give me some hints. Any suggestion would be appriciated.

Thank you!

Hi,

Here is a good link for your Maytag Dryer, the problem could be the rollers, idler pulley, motor bearing, blower wheel, front glide assembly.

I want to replace the motor.
But on top of the shaft, that little thing (I think it is called pulley), I could not take it off. It was too tight to take the screw off. Beside the shaft turned when I twisted the wrench.
How to take it off?

Hi,

**But on top of the shaft, that little thing (I think it is called pulley)**

Motor pulley?

Motor pulley and set screw

If yes....these can be VERY tight and may not come off....I usually bring a new one with me "just in case"....you can try tapping on the set screw with a hammer or try a little heat on the pulley to loosen the set screw up....1/2 of the time they will not come off for me either.
