Post Jenn Air dishwasher won't drain and I'm going to shoot it...

Quick history: we have a six-year-old Jenn-Air JWB5900AWB dishwasher. Recently the dishwasher just stopped running - no motor action at all. I took it apart and discovered wads of broken glass. The glass damaged several parts including the disc cutter, which was bent down into the drain cover, not allowing the motor to spin. Also damaged were the drain impeller assembly and the pump seal. I removed the disc cutter, put everything back together and ordered replacement parts. Took awhile to get them but dishwasher resumed working after I removed the disc cutter. Warned my son (who is the only other one to do dishes other than me) to completely rinse dishes as the drain cover had a hole from the damage and would allow large food pieces through, probably clogging the drain. I now realize this was a mistake since my darling son can't remember to keep his fly zipped so remembering dish rinse techniques is pretty much out of the question.

This week, parts came in and planned to install this weekend. However, before I could install the parts, the dishwasher completely stopped draining. I assumed the drain hose was just clogged but after replacing the damaged parts, removing the ENTIRE drain hose AND clearing out the hole in the bottom of the tub where it drains to the drain hose, it is STILL not draining.

I've battled all day with this thing and at this point, I am either going start physically assaulting the dishwasher or throw out all our dishes and go with paper.

Thanks muchly,

Heather

CORRECTION: In my dishwasher delirium, I typed the wrong model number. The correct number is JDB5900AWB. Sorry!

I would recommend replacing the dishwasher. This Maytag-built Jenn Air d/w was not a very durable design---in my experiences with it.

****Most other brands aren't either,unfortunately****

I would buy:

WHIRLPOOL

LG ELECTRONICS

FRIGIDARE (Only the FDB780**** models)

I hate to replace it if I can make it work...but did spend some more time on it today and found when i watched the motor spin, it moves forward but when it gets to the reverse, it never moves, just hums. So figure problem is with motor or timer which are both expensive parts. Sigh.

The timer would just supply power to the motor. If the motor was humming, the timer is likely doing its job so that leaves either a defective motor or the pump is jamming when turning in that direction.

If the motor is needed, it looks to only come as a whole pump and motor assembly. While making it easier to install, will usually also make it more expensive. The cheapest place I found for it is at the following link, you can see a picture of the assembly at the second link

LINK > 99001934 Pump Assembly

JFYI

I'm sorry to ask you so many questions Dan but since I'm just a girl who likes to take things apart (and hate to pay someone to do something that - with help from people like you - I can do myself).

I did think that it could possibly be one of the contacts to the motor but in my mind, if that was the case, it wouldn't even be humming would it? Maybe something is stuck in one of the pump pieces and I missed it.

I am going to double check everything again before ordering the pump/motor assembly. Thanks for that link too - the cheapest I had found was $204 - big difference!

Thanks! Heather
