Not sure of the model, but new last year. French door with freezer on the bottom. The ice and water are in the left door and all the display lights are blinking. As this is going on, the ice flapper door, slowly opens, then snaps shut. This goes on for like 15 minutes, stops for about 20, then repeats itself. Any suggestions?

Hi Jeff,
Thanks - model number is MFI2568AEB. Unit is 2 months outside of warranty. Is there a way I can cut power to just the door and not the unit it self to make it stop until I can get it repaired? Thanks, Mike |

Remove the top hinge cover to see if the wire disconnect is there...if yes, disconnect the wire harness for the dispensor. This will not effect the rest of the refrigerator.

I have the same thing on the same model number refrigerator (MFI2568AEB) happening in the middle of the night last night. I'd love to know what you did to have the refrigerator fixed. Was it a control board.
I managed to get the trouble stopped temporarily by removing the dispenser/display panel and pulling out the connector on the upper left back with red and blue wires only. The other inputs were left in tact. I can control the temp of the refrigerator, but the wire connector I disconnected prevents me from using the ice and water dispenser and this morning the freezer bottom drawer was already showing signs of building up frost. If it was a matter of replacing the control board, let me know and I will replace it. My unit is a couple months out of warranty too of course. |

I had ordered the HV board and all suppliers were quoting 3 or more weeks before having one in stock. I decided to call a service repair man to be sure that I was getting the right part before waiting that long to find out if the problem was with the board.
The service man didn't even need to open anything up on the refrigerator after I described the problem. He confirmed that this was so common on this refrigerator that the part he used to keep stocked on his truck was back ordered for his company as well. He did call it in and was able to get a part to me in 7 days instead of the 3+ weeks I would have otherwise waited (of course I had to pay a premium for all of this, ouch). I received the part and installed it within 10 minutes. Installing a new HV board did require a quick re-programming done from the front panel (using a code noted inside the refrigerator). The enclosed directions were easy to follow for this so in all, I had the refrigerator back in business in less than 20 minutes. This is a do-it-yourself repair if you are comfortable with removing the back of your computer to install new internal hardware. The symptoms described are apparently universal to the problem. |

Yeah, if this were to happen again, I would do it myself. Work at a computer company and make make board swaps and stuff. Plus have rebuilt a few engines and transmissions, so I don't think this is outside my scope. I remembered after you mentioned it that they had to reprogram my unit as well.
Who'd have thought this kind of technology would be in a refridgerator! I am glad it all worked out for you. I hope it 's the last appliance we have to fix in a while! Take care, Mike |

The connector I unplugged to get the ice door flap to stop going did effect the refrigeration. The freezer continued to operate, but did not go into defrost mode. The upper refrigerator did not stay cool. If you use this temporary "fix" you will need alternate refrigeration.
Hope this helps. |
