I understand that others have had problems with leaking water dispensers in these units. The fridge was bought in 1999. It has had the control board replaced twice and the solenoid once. Has failed again, resulting in a massive flood to the kitchen and basement below.

Any suggestions what is causing this problem and how to fix this? Is there a recall from Maytag?

Thank you.

Hi,

** understand that others have had problems with leaking water dispensers in these units**

We have seen many different manufactures and dispensors leak....yours has had no more problems than others in my area.

**Has failed again**

What failed?

**resulting in a massive flood to the kitchen and basement below**

Leaking?...or water staying on and dispensing?...have seen a few micro switches stick and keep the chilled water/ice cubes running without the glass having to be there.

Sorry I wasn't clearer.

The dispenser originally failed shortly after it was bought, but was just turned off instead of repaired at that time. The dispenser was kicking out ice cubes while unattended.

The unit was recently repaired and first a control board was added. As soon as it was tested, the board fried and the repairman looked further, finding that the solenoid was also shot. He next replaced the solenoid and board. This time the ice maker worked, but the water didn't. Next he replaced the dual water valves and it seemed to work fine.

Within a week of use, we woke up to water flooding the kitchen floor and water was just pouring out of the dispenser. We shut the dispenser off.

We now have a kitchen floor to be replaced, drywall damage and carpet damage downstairs, and a fridge ice/water dispenser that still doesn't work.

I don't know if this type of failure is normal with other models as well, but an Internet search showed others with this model have had this same problem. No solutions offered on how to fix it though.

Any repair you can suggest would be appreciated.

Dwayne

How did you shut off the dispensor? Turned off the water, disconnected the wires in the door hinge?

Has anybody checked to see where or why the water kept comming out? Your model has 2 fill valves...tough to think both could stick open and allow water flow. I'd still think a sticky micro switch is possible.

Our Maytag MSD2556AEW (1999) did the same thing last week. Our hard wood floors and base of some cabinets are spoiled. We have an extended warranty with Sears so the circuit boards will be fixed but I don't know if I can trust this fridge anymore.

Default I have had similar issues with my MayScrag

Same issues with losing control board. Also Ice Maker tended to be sporadic in working. sometimes would overflow causing ice to form down back wall.. Three now, this will be my fourth one which I just ordered from the site here. Mine is a MSD2957AEW purchased in 1999... I will never buy another MayTag again, in fact anybody out there know of a good replacement for MayTag gear?

Default Yaknow I think I agree 100%

My First Refridger/Freezer I owned I got second hand in 1988. It was a GE 1980 model side by side with ice and water through the door.. I ran it till it finally could not be repaired any more. That's when I bought the MayTag. I wish I had held onto that old 19 year old box.. They just ran and ran back then.. What has happened to the quality and pride that used to be built into products? Sad...
