Default Maytag msd2556aeb defrost problem

I've had this side-by-side fridge/freezer since 1996. Last year the maytag repair guy came over and replaced the defrost coil because it had a couple holes in it that prevented it from defrosting the cooling coil and prevented the unit from cooling. He mentioned that this very rarely happens.

Now its doing it again. I removed the panel in the back of the freezer compartment and thawed out the cooling coil and its working now until the coil freezes again. Any suggestions?

We've also had a problem with moisture and frost on the fridge side but just learned to live with it. Thermostat settings are always fridge 5-7 (depending on amount of contents) freezer 5.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Ok, you would need to ohm your defrost heater/defrost thermostat for continuity, while its still frosty. Here is a help link for doing this:

If both check normal, then your problem lies in your adaptive defrost board, and we have a thread that explains it here:

Thumbs up

Jake,

Thank you very helpful. Can you link me a diagram that show location and removal (if necessary) of the defrost board?
