Question Maytag Ice maker flap - Not flapping!

I have a 1994 Maytag side by side refrigerator and this past week ice jammed
in the chute. I cleared it out but now the flapper will NOT open with just pressure
from the ice. Help! Can I clean it? Lubricate it? I so miss easy ice!

Hi Jake,

The model is RSW 2400 C (There is a wrinkle on the C so lets hope I'm right on the letter)

Thanks,

Joyce

Do you hear the ice door trying to open at all now?

May have a bad ice dispenser door solenoid:

Jake,

I looked at the front and can't locate the screws to remove the front ( as in the illustration). Mine looks different. My little grill just lays inside and it's smooth inside (no screws).
When I push a glass in it to get ice I hear it falling but the door will not open. I can reach in and open it manually.

The solenoid makes sense - I just thought it was gravity -- what do I know!

How hard of a repair is this?

Thanks for ruminating on this.
Have a nice Memorial Day - SUNSHINE!

Thanks, Have a Good Memorial Day too!

Yes, these are more difficult to repair than most, here is a diagram of the inside of yours:

You would need to remove#12 to get to it. But its been a few years since I have done one, unless I actually looked at it myself, I can't remember what to take off to get to #12, sorry.

Maybe one of my fellow techs. can assist me here.

Wow - That's it! I have a bad feeling about ever having "easy ice" again. Thanks for looking this up. I will be patient and hope someone has some inspiration here. Can't imagine what a repair bill would look like.

Thanks.
