My faithful Panasonic's touch pad has gone kaput. (I guess I have to say it "died in it's sleep", as there was no noticeable event; I just went to use it yesterday afternoon and the buttons did zippo).
It worked normally earlier in the day; finishing a cooking cycle and beeping appropriately when it was finished. The model # is NN6369. The door opens and latches normally and the interior light comes on as it should when I open it...any ideas? Philip |

Hi Philip,
Unfortunately, I don't work on microwaves. You can go to Jeff's q&a section here: http://www.applianceaid.com/qanda.html or You can email Jeff and ask him: http://www.applianceaid.com/index.html Bottom of that link is his email address. Jake

Hello Philip,
If your touch pad has stopped responding, the best thing you can do is to remove the control panel, remove the ribbon cable from the touch pad and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. Then reattach the cable and give it a show. If that doesn't help, then you are most likely looking at a new control board, which I think may be a bit hard to find. You probably wouldn't like the cost either, but try cleaning and resetting the cable and see what happens. Microwave Safety Information |

I'd be more than willing to try that; though it's looking like this old machine is probably about to retire I try to avoid tossing out large appliances as much as I can. Could you give me a quick rundown on "removing the control panel?" Looks like after that it's pretty self-explanatory... Thanks |

Hey Philip,
I agree with keeping things working. Why toss it out when it can be fixed. Unfortunately, the manufacturers see it another way and parts become scarce much quicker than most of us would like. As for the panel, you will need to remove the cabinet which is usually held in place with screws along the back and possible each side. It should slide to the rear and lift off. The control panel is usually held by one screw near the top and then it should slide up out of some notches. You may be able to get to the ribbon cable without removing the control just to save some hassle. Give it a try and you may be able to postpone the retirement. |
