Default Please Help-Dacor Cooktop Igniter Knob Problem

I have a Dacor 4 Burner Cooktop LP gas with electronic igniters. The right front knob will not push down to ignite and turn the gas on. It’s probably broken. I can lift the entire cooktop up off the counter and view where the electric cord plugs in the wall and where the gas line connects to the cooktop, but I can’t figure out how to remove & replace the knob/ igniter, which is in a sheet metal box attached to the stove top and which appears to be a sealed unit. I have sent emails to Dacor repeatedly to no avail..can anyone help me? I’m located in very rural area miles from any appliance repair guys. Also anyone have any ideas where I may find a new igniter if I can replace it? My stovetop is about 20 years old, is a Model # GGC304/LP and also has a Ser. # 722966.
    Thanks ….Drover

    Hi Drover,

I don't work on Dacor, but I asked in another forum, but haven't got a reply yet on it.

Not many techs. work on Dacor products, unfortunately. Its more the specialized high end appliance.

Since I don't work on Dacor products I can refund your $5 Membership fee if you want, and still give you a Lifetime Membership here in case you have other products I work on.

    Hey Drover,

I can possibly get you the info this evening once I get back to my office computer. Usually to get the to off of Dacors you need a tool to remove the burners. If you have the change, remove one of the burner caps and upload a photo of the brass ring in the middle so I can be sure and get you going in the right direction.

    Default Dacor cooktop igniter...to Brian

    Hi Brian
I don’t want to remove any of the burners until I halfway understand what I’m going to replace…So far I think I need a new knob…since it refuses to push down or turn at all. Can you tell me how I get to that valve/knob? Do I remove all 4 of the burners? And then will the whole glass top come off??? Your right about that brass ring..looks like it takes a special tool to fit in the notches on each side of the ring. Will I end up taking all 4 burners off? I have researched the Internet using Model # and Serial # for my DACOR cooktop…without any luck…The Dacor people are usless...referring me to one repairman who lives 25 miles from here. I contacted him, explained my problem, he has never called me back…I’ll take a picture again of the center brass ring, and include it with my next message…just reply to me here so I know you’re still out there…

    Hey Drover,

Glad to hear back from you, but unfortunately, I did some checking around and the valves for your cook top don't seem to be available anymore from conventional sources. Since the knob will no longer push down or turn, it sounds like a gas valve has failed. Not having access to the part may be the reason your local servicer never called back. I will keep looking around, but there may not be a good fix for this. The valve may only be blocked with some spill over so if you can get to it, you may be able to clean the shaft and see if you can free it up. The entire top comes off once the brass rings have been removed. A special tool is used to do this, but a small flat blade screwdriver and hammer can be used to tap them loose until you can turn them by hand. Once the burners are off, the top lifts off and you can get to the valves. Just pay attention to how everything came off when you put it back together. As I said, I will keep looking but using an authorized servicer for parts may be your only real option.

Thumbs up Back to ya Brian...from Drover

Thanks for that Brian, and the trouble it took to get that info. Sorry it takes me so long to get back with a reply. Had some urgent stuff to do here on the spread. Looking carefully at the top of the burner with the gas spreader off, I see what you mean about using a piece of metal or something like that to “unscrew” those brass ring tubing looking things….I may just try what you said about taking the rings of so I can lift the top off and get to the valve that doesn’t want to push down or turn. I all ready squirted some penetrating type fluid around the shaft but it still won’t move. Buy the way on more question. I’m here in a rural area and my gas is LP. Lifting the top off the Cook top, I noticed that gas line comes out of the bottom of the cook top then goes into a shut off valve which is attached to a small round brass disk shaped adapter. Is that the LP adapter? If so, and I buy a new gas cook top can I just hook up to the valve and leave that adapter or do I have to use the new adapter furnished with the new cook top? Ill attach 3 digital shots I took

    Hey Drover,

Those brass rings are what holds it together and there is a tool to remove them, but as you have probably figured out, there are other methods to get them to turn. As for the LP question, what you are looking at is the gas regulator which is then converted to run on LP instead of NG. Any new cook top you purchased would have it's own regulator and the unit would need to be converted to LP for use in your house. Most come with replacement burner orifices and instructions for you to do it yourself, or some dealers or gas suppliers will do the conversion for you, but generally for a small fee. If trying to fee up the valve doesn't work, a new cook top may be your best option. Thanks for the photos and hope you have some success with the repair.

The Dacor part number for the tool you need is 86007C (to remove the Dacor burner rings)

Like Brian said, you don't necessarily need it, but it makes the job a whole lot easier.

    Default Thanks Econ App..& Brian..

Thanks for the part number info...My stovetop is about 20 years old, and as I mentioned before is a Model # GGC304/LP and is Ser. # 722966. Do you have any ideas about what the valve replacement # is and where I can get one? It's the right front. A repair guy I called up here either couldn't find the part after contacting Decor as he mentioned he would, or...he's sick...he never phoned back anyway. Looks like I'll probably get a new cooktop if I cant free the valve up. One more question though if you will. ...
Does each burner have its own LP/orifice converter, or is the converter (brass disk) on the gas line coming out of the wall before its gets to that red shut off valve as shown in my photo?... Appreciate the help guys...I'm just tryin to save myself 1000 bucks++ for a replacement...

As I said before, I haven't found a source that still shows the part as available. The part numbers are 86039 for the small burners and 86040 for the large burners. Each burner has it's own orifice and the regulator must be converted for the change in gas pressure. Calling Dacor is probably your best bet unless you keep looking around an various support forums for someone that might have some old inventory lying around.
