Default [FIXED] Viking/Kenmore Electric Convection oven does not get warm even

    Model Number: 970-308080
    Brand: Sears Kenmore

In the past four years the clock has reset to a flashing 12:00.

Last night after baking some baguettes the oven stopped heating, even though it was still on.

I tried again today and left it to preheat for 15 minutes, no heat at all.

I've read other posts, so I'm assuming it's either the control board or the elements(top and bottom no longer work).

I'm guessing my next step is to check for continuity/resistance on each of the elements, can I do this from inside the oven just touching the element with the probes?

    Thanks,

    Darren

Yes, do the continuity check on the bake/broil elements, normal would be 11-50 ohms. Make sure you turn the breaker off to your range first!

You would need to pull the range out from the wall, then take the back access panel off, some models you can remove the screws inside the oven to the elements and pull them into the oven a little, just enough to get to the terminals, take 1 wire off from each of the bake/broil elements then put your ohm meter probes on the bake/broil terminal ends.

Ok, I checked the resistance on the bake and broil elements, they were 17 and 15 ohms respectively.

I checked the voltage across the bake element and it was 0V. I then checked from one side of the element to ground, it was 120V. I checked the other side and it measured 120V.

So I'm guessing at this point its the clock control board. I found a part number 316248020, but it was discontinued. There is a replacement now 316207620.

Does my assessment seem valid Jake?

    Thanks again.

Yes, but I can't be for sure, since I can't look-up your model#, here in the states we don't access to certain Canadian model#'s.

You may have a thermostat in the very back of your range/oven that may be bad, that would cause it too, so do you see a thermostat in the back on yours?

If you do, turn the breaker off to your range, then ohm that out, normal would be 0-1 ohm.

I removed the oven temp probe and checked it out.

It's reading infinite resistance, and continuity fails as well. I guess the probe is toast.

    #316233900 according to Sears

Thanks again Jake, your knowledge and expertise are outstanding! I'll post after I have ordered and installed a new one.

    Ok Darren,

Yes, sounds like the oven temp. probe. Yes, let us know how it goes, because if that doesn't fix it, then its more than likely the clock/oven control board part#316207620 you listed above.

New probe in, same deal. Although now I can feel heat from the convection 110v element.

Next step is to check the relays on the main control board, and possibly just replace the whole thing.

    Default Good news, bad news

I found a place that will either repair or send you a refurbished EOC.

I had them send me a refurb, and it fixed my issue(20A relay is burned out on my old one). Unfortunately I tried the "lock" feature and it didn't work quite right.

Now when I plug my oven in it comes up with an error after a few minutes of locking/unlocking the oven door, F9.

I put my old EOC in and its ok, except for the bake/broil not working.

I'm waiting for a refurb for the refurb now
