My pilot went out in my oven (this range is at least 10 year old). I cannot figure out where to light the pilot. I've had a flame all over the inside of it (I'm almost out of lighter fluid!) holding it in spots where I think the pilot is to warm up the thermal coupler and nothing lights. It's an odd-looking unit. Next to the oven burner is a box about 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" with metal slats that has a small piece of something in the middle of it (perhaps the bake/broiler ignitor?). I was thinking this might be where the pilot is. Perhaps it stays lit (or is supposed to!) and then when the burner has the gas running through it, it lights from there. After a little research this "box" looks like it's a Norton ignitor. Now the question is where do I put the flame to light it?!?

Then there is no pilot light, it is an hot surface ignitor.

-If- this is a hot surface ignitor style....first is to figure out why the ignitor is not comming on....no power from the control, has power but ignitor is open, etc.
Volt/ohm meter is required to test.

Jeff,

Thanks again for the additional information. I was able to get it going (whew!) but it took forever! I have a feeling I'm going to need to replace the ignition or get a new stove. I like that last option!

Take care!
