Post [FIXED] Can I keep my freezer outside?

I have a newish large chest freezer.

Can I keep it outside? We get summer and winter here (-30 to +30 c)

The risk of rain and such does not concern me much but I am curious if it will work when it is super cold/hot.

Hi,

Well i lived in Tucson, Arizona for 6 years, and the summer heat there is about 105-115 degrees every day. Freezers can work at those temps. , but it is hard on the compressor to stay cool, so i recommended a fan for air flow in the outside room or garage.

The freezing cold weather under5 degrees is not good to run it either, may cause the compressor oil to thicken and harden up and damage the compressor.

Hope this helps.

Jake

We have had a chest freezer for decades which we keep out on our porch. In the winter it gets down to -45°F and the freezer has done fine. Basically it doesn't run thus saving electricity. We got it used so it is an older model compressor. I am in the market for another chest freezer because we raise pastured pigs and need more space to store meet when we pick it up from the butcher. A salesman told me that I can't put a modern freezer outdoors where it will freeze. Is this true of all brands? Seems weird. There is a huge energy savings to be had by using the cold of the outdoors (we're in Vermont) during the long winter.

Thoughts?

Cheers

The old freezers from the past had a rock solid compressor that it seems nothing would damage them, but the new freezers of today are not as well built and the freezing temps below 5 degrees could damage it.

I would go to different appliance stores in your area and ask around, someone is bound to know since they live there as well.
