Hi, I don't think this really belongs here, but since this could be a related question I'll try to see if someone can help me with this problem.
My 99 GE frige just broke on Monday, so looking to buy a new one. After reading posts here and consumer reports, I'm considering either the Kenmore or Amana bottom freezer. We have a size limitation, it can't be more than 32"... so it'll be the smallest kind of frige. Anyway, back to my question, we inherited the frige when we bought this house. We just found out that there is a water line to the back of the frige but not hooked. So I want to check and see if the waterline works, and found the valve at the bottom of the sink. It was a bit tight, but managed to turn it on and water flowing. HOWEVER, the problem starts when we are unable to fully turn the water off. We have it at the closed position but water keeps dripping out of it. So we keep tightening it, and I knew that it would happened... the knob that controls the valve is now loose. I can't turn on and off the valve any more, and water is still slowly dripping out of the water line. Is there anyway that I can have this fix without replacing the whole valve or waterline? Any easy way to fix this problem? The water line is coming out of the cold water pipe before the sink faucet knob, so I believed the only way to shut off the water is through the main line (which I have no idea how to do that). I'm just trying to see if anyone can suggest a simple way to fix this mess now. ![]() |

You need to replace that on/off valve, or have a plumber do it, have to turn the water off at the meter to the house......also want to check to see what brand you are getting with that Kenmore, they make nothing, buy from others, the full model number will tell us what brand you really are buying..

Can we just replace the on/off valve without replacing the whole clamp? I'm afraid that replacing it with a new one will cause a possible leak in the future (since the puntured hole in the pipe might be different size??).
The Kenmore we just bought has the model# 76083. I do know that Kenmore is build by other brands, like whirlpool, frigidare... the sales guy told us that this one is by LG... don't know if it's a good thing or not??? |
