Post [FIXED] 2nd defrost timer dies w/in a year

Our fridge needs a defrost timer for the 2nd time in slightly less than a year. Is this a sign of something else? The unit is probably 10-15 years old, but I'm guessing - it came with the house.

Thanks!!

Me again.

Now that we've replaced the defrost timer,it seems that the freezer compartment is doing OK, but the fridge part doesn't seem to be getting cold fast enough. We're still at 58 degrees and it's been several hours.

I live near a Sears Appliance outlet and have started shopping for a replacement just in case. Any suggestions on Side by Side with water/ice in the door? They had a ton of regular Kenmores and Kenmore Elites, as well as Kitchenaid and GE's.

Thanks Again!

Hi,

Sounds like its not the defrost timer causing this warm 58 degreerefrigerator problem, since they changed the defrost timer twice. If you notice frost built up on the freezer back panel or freezer bottom panel it will either be a bad defrost thermostat(Bi-Metal) or a bad defrost heating element.

I wouldnt advice throwing a whole lotof money ona appliance with its age over 10 years old. Now A days most appliances average about 10-15 years of life.

The way Sears Service does it is: If you had the Refrigerator fixed in the last 90 days by Sears, and it breaks down again, we would come and only charge for the part that it needs, not anymore labor or trip charge.

The Kenmore(Whirlpool built) Refrigerators are very well made, I suggest those or the Maytag/Amana brands.

Jake
