Samsung Refridgerator RS2533SW - Ice Maker broken

Greetings:

My ice maker seems to be not emptying until it has gone through several cycles and created a huge block of ice. It seems to be related to the unit attached to the bottom of the ice tray. Is that a sensor or something that assists in emptying the tray?
