Default Woods Freezer frosting up

Jake, I have a Woods manual defrost upright 16.9 cu ft freezer, model V17WUA. Sorry for posting under this manufacturer name, but I didn't see anything for Woods or when I searched the forums on this issue. Questions is, I spent 4 hours chipping and defrosting large chunks of ice out of this freezer last Sunday. It seems like the thing always frosts up at a fast rate. Today I see a 1/2" of new frost buildup in places where I just cleaned it. Anything I can do to slow down how fast this feezer frosts up. My other freezer is also a manual defrost and I rarely have to clean it out. Thanks.

It sounds like you have an air leak causing condensation to form more on your evaporator coils, thus more frost faster.

Check all around your door gasket seal for leaks or a torn gasket.

Jake, just wondering if you can help a bit more on my freeze up issue. I can't see that the gasket is torn nor can I tell where it might be leaking. Should I be able to feel cold somewhere around the gasket if its the culprit. Also, I've been trying to find a door gasket, but I'm not having much luck. Any suggestions.
Thanks
Rick

Yes Rick, feel all around your door gasket for cold air coming out.

You can order the door gasket through Woods website here:

Jake, I can't feel any cold air. However, I noticed on the bottom left, the metal on the left side of the freezer sticks out 3/16" more than the metal plate on the bottom. It looks like a manfucturing defect as everything is flat all the way around the rest of the freezer where the gasket touches the freezer. I tried beating the side plate back, but there wasn't much give. So I took a metal grinder and ground things down to try and get everything on the same plane. I then used some fiberglass reinforced jelly to level everything out. After block sanding it with a 12" block, everything is smooth and flat where the metal pieces butt together. Guess we'll see if that was the issue. Thanks.

Ok, good job Rick, hopefully that will take care of it.
