Hello,
I have a 4 yr. old kenmore side by side model #25351399103. It started to make some strange sounds(humming like a dirty air ionizer). I then noticed that it completely lost cooling and defrosted. I unplugged it for few hours then plugged it back in and within seconds I could hear something like a relay clicking, the compressor did not come on. I shut it off for couple of days , then plugged it back in and I could hear the c ompressor come on and it started to work like normal, cooling properly, however it still made some strange electrical sounds off and on. after running for about a week it stop cooling again, and now it will not restart the compressor even after I left it unplugged a day or so...... it just clicks off a relay I believe.NOt sure if comp[ressor is the issue??? the lights and fan(near coils) are working, but no cooling or sound from compressor or inside fan. I am also wondering if this has a 5 year warranty?? can not find original papers but the it was mfg. 12/01. thanks:?:? |

If the problem is just the compressor's relay/overload, that part is usually only warranted for 1-year from date of purchase. JFYI Dan O. Appliance411.com The Appliance Information Site =D~~~~~~ |

Hello again,
Just wondering if you think it is worth ordering the relay and installing,($27.00) I know I can do it. in your opinion /experience would you go ahead with relay r/r. the compressor shows no signs of leaks or bad solder etc.... and it did cool perfectly in between down time.... thanks |

Hi, the 253 model is aKenmore made by Frigidaire, The compressor clicking on this is usually a bad compressor.
The 106 model is a Kenmore made by Whirlpool, and the clicking on this is usually a bad relay. The way you check a relay is to get a OHM meter to ohm out the start and run terminals in the relay, if there is continuity, then the relay is good. You should have the 5 year warranty on compressor and labor. Jake
