Default new condensor

I am going to put a new condensor in my 9 yr old GE refrigerator. I have an AC friend who will do the work, I got the r134a and gauges from a car mechanic friend, is there any thing I should be careful of as far as refilling the refrigerant. I am doing this cause I called 5 appliance companies and no-one will do the job, so I am left with no other choice. We were hit by lightning and I am not throwing out a $3000 refrigerator. GE was here once and told me the problem, I called them 5 times and they won't come back to do the job either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Joe

Your putting in a new condenser or compressor?

Do you have the welding supplies to do it? You need a turbo torch, acetylene, silver solder, silfoss, flux, sandpaper, a good knowledge of welding and unwelding copper/metal joints.

Its a huge job, especially if you have never done it before.

Filling it with 134a is the easy part, I sweep charge the compressor, then use the low side to put the 134a in. Pressure on the low side should be between 1-5.

My friend who does air conditioninng is going to do the brazing for me, as that is what the instructions with new condennsor say to do. He asked me if it said silver or brazing and it says to braze. Thanks for the info, Joe
