Default Admiral ice maker

I have a Admiral designer series, 18.6 cu. ft., frostless, Refigerator - Freezer, Model HMG 19143. This unit is about 14 yrs. old, and was origionally made for Montgoemery Ward. That is the problem can't find any info for repair.
The ice maker is a modular unit. Lately after the ice maker dumps its ice and the water cycles in for next batch the water does not shut off when full. It will continue to run for a while after filling and all that extra water goes in dump tray. So as you can imagine it all freezes into solid block after a few cycles.
I think from what I have read I have got the problem narrowed down to a inlet switch or inlet valve problem. I don't know how to test either one or where they are located!!
Everytime I try to get info on a search nothing comes back. I think this may be due to Montgomery Ward is out of business.
Can somone help diagnose this problem? So that I can fix it and get the wife off my back!

Hi craft5759,

Could you double check the model number for me? I can't seem to find it
If this is the ice maker I think it is (does it have a white plastic flex tray)
I know this ice maker well. Let me ask you this, have you watched the ice maker dump the ice and then go into a fill? The reason I ask is, small hard water deposits made the ice cubes stick to the tray like they were glued and then water would fill on top of them.

I am not sure eaxctly what you mean by a white plastic flex tray. The ice maker is all white plastic except for a black band about 1/2 " wide behind the cover where you access the test ports. It makes half moon cubes. It rotates a set of fingers over / up that pushes the frozen cubes from the tray they freeze in. If thats what you are talking about, yes it is white plastic.
Yes I have watched the ice maker physically dump the ice into the catch bin below. Then it goes thru the cycle to resit itself and then you will hear the water cut on to fill for next cycle of ice. The water runs 2-3 times longer than what I would consider normal. Water will start to run out from ice maker into the catch bin. I can not tell where eaxctly the water orginates from. The extra water frezees with the ice that has been into the catch bin. This repeats with each cycle!

I went back and looked at the number again. The number I gave you was from the freezer door. Inside of the fridgerator is another set of numbers and it has one more number than the one on the freezer door.

Hope that helps and thanks!

If its overflowing, but the water is stopping, you will need a new ice maker assembly. After time the circuit board on the ice maker wears out and causes it to fill more than normal.

Here is a new one for your model:
