We spent the week in Coos Bay Oregon on a sand dune trip.
We gave ourselves 3 days to get there and 3 more to get back. It's been in the 105 deg F here, so the nice 65 deg F Oregon weather was excellent. Motel'd it, left the RV at home. We hit the in-route goofy tourist stuff like the Museum of Barn Yard Oddities, Seal Caves, Gravity Hill,, etc. Wouldn't let them put the HUGE 15" X 36" advertising sticker on the truck though. Amazing how many people do. Flags, helmets, keys, wallet, the rest I could fake when we got there. No self serve pumping at the Oregon Gas Stations. So I took some extra gas cans to save that hassle. ![]() ![]() 1000 miles up and 1000 miles back. The wife at Spinreel Dunes video: YouTube - Oregon Sand Dunes in a Rzr S Oregon is an terrific place. I can see why people want to move there. We stayed at an Indian Casino/resort just minutes from the dunes. Our room had a big 14' X 14' window overlooking Coos Bay. The combo of Oregon and tribal blue laws are a bit odd. No kids anywhere near the casino, not even walking through. You now can carry a drink around, but it can't have a label on it like a beer can or bottle or Mikes Hard Lemon aid. You'll have to wait until 10 AM to get that Grey Goose Bloody Mary. Some Bay Area bikers were actually following the same route as us. Eventually they introduced themselves at the restaurant and we chatted. Later, in the trip when we were descending back down the West Coast we saw them again with some problems. They asked if they loaded one of their broken down Harleys on our trailer would we be so kind as to drop it off in Oakland. Sure,, they loaded one of the kids quads in the back of our truck and secured the Harley on our trailer, and we dropped it off at a place called Godspeed Speed Parlor in Oakland. I think it was located at Heroin and Homicide streets. Bar/Bike repair/tattoos/cafe/ clothing and fine women all under one roof. Great place full of really cool people. We went in and they had an all you can eat waffle and mimosa breakfast going. Worth a look if you're in the Bay area and don't mind places rough around the edges. Video of me rolling a Polaris Rzr at the Dunes: YouTube - Ross Roll Over Only problem was our 2500HD GMC truck A/C eventually gave us diminished air flow and warm air at that. This while traveling through the hot mid- California farmlands. I replaced the pressure switch, located on the accumulator near the firewall and it cured the problem. It has a plug on one side, and then simply screws into a schrader valve on the side of the accumulator. |
