Default Samsung rb1955sw compressor doesn't shut off

    Model Number: rb1955sw
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 6-10 years

O.K. - my third forum to post this problem so maybe 3rds the charm. This unit has a main board and a display board on the frige door where the temps are read and limits are set. The proper temps are being read as checked by thermometers so I think the thermistors are o.k.. When the frige set point is reached it stays there but the freezer just keeps getting colder (to -14) until I unplug it or the overload trips. I replaced the main board but that did not help. I suspect the freezer set point is not being sent to the main board so the display board would be bad in that case. It has no problem getting cold quickly. Whatcha think?

Go into Self Diagnostics to check the functions.

Press the Power Freeze and Power Cool buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds.

In the self diagnostic mode, corresponding LED segments will display telling you of any problems.

Let me know what you get.

O.k. - I did that and got all zeroes. Something tells me that's not gonna be helpful.

I believe you have a bad freezer sensor. Let the unit run till the temperature gets down below 0°F.

Unplug the unit. Then go to the main board and find connector CN30. Disconnect the connector from the main board and measure the freezer sensor between point 1 and 5. That would be the Blue and Grey wire. You should get a reading of more than 29.5k ohms. If you get less than 29.5k ohms, replace the sensor.

Also there is a freezer defrost sensor you can check between point 3 and 5. That would be Orange and Grey. That should measure the same.

The freezer sensor part number is DA32-10105S. That sensor is located inside the lighted divider assembly next to the icemaker.

The freezer defrost sensor part number is DA32-00006C. That sensor is located behind the back wall where the evaporator is located.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks so much I'll try that and report back. Got to get a new dvm first as I found it dead in a string of unfortunate events.

O.K. back in town new DVM in hand. When -2 and 38 were reached I cut the power, pulled the connector and measured the freezer sensor which read 30.1K and the f.defrost read 33.5K. Using the chart on the back of the unit I checked the refrig sensor = 11.5K and r.defrost 6.5K. One possible clue I failed to mention is that you can watch the temp go down to -14 but when it shuts off the display reads -2 and 38 no matter what. So if it just shut off, I cycle the power and the the display may go to -4 and 38 for example or if I get up in the morning, it's not cold and still displays -2 and 38, I cycle the power and it may read 26 and 51 or so. To complicate matters it seems to be intermittent as it ran most of the day yesterday with no problems. Hope it's not the dreaded intermittent connector syndrome. Thanks for your help.

Ok, those readings you gave me says that the sensors are doing their job. You may have a problem with the control board relays to the compressor. Replace the board and that should resolve your issues.

What is the BOM# and Serial#??? The BOM number ends in the letter /XAA.

Thanks but you must have missed in my first post that I replaced the main board already. I also replaced the PTC since it was cheap and I was desperate. Living out of a 4 cu.ft.er at the moment.

You may have installed the wrong control board. I checked and you should've installed part #DA41-00128D.
