Default Kenmore 417.40142000 washer

Well, here's my story. After researching for 6 months and reading everything I could on front loading washers, including another appliance thread that was in praise of this machine, I decided to take the plunge. I couldn't afford to pay full price, so I went to the outlet center. I found a machine that was never used and only had cosmetic damage. Everything was fine for 2 years. I could have been more pleased. Then the leaking started at the seam of the outside drum and eventually I believe the bearing started to go. It started making really loud noises in the spin cycle. It's just been sitting there not knowing what to do. After reading about the cost of repair, I have come to the conclusion I need to purchase a new machine. I really like this machine. Does anyone know if the problems I have stated have been fixed on the newer models? Does it pay to go to the outlet shop? It is mandatory to get a warrantly contract? Is this something inheirant with this manufacturer and need to buy something else?

Thank you in advance for any advise you can give me.

Don't know yet, the new designed ones haven't been on the market long enough to tell.

Yes, its fine to do that.

Yes, I advise everyone to always get the warranty contract on front loaders, as the electronic boards are highly expensive.

Its hard to tell, as some machines seem to go longer than others due to usage.

Jake,

Thanks for the answers. Would it be worth it just to pay the money and get this machine fixed. The machine was only running for 2 years. At least this way I know that it would run. Basically have a refurbished machine.

I know Sears has a special program where they charge your credit card on the phone for about $180 then they will send a tech. and fix it for no charge, even if you needed all kinds of parts, they wouldn't charge you anything else! Its called a Service Smart Contract.

And if its over $500 to repair, they will give you a $500 in store credit towards a new washer. You can call them at 1-800-4-MYHOME to get this.
