Kenmore Elite Side by Side seemed to stop working

Iam furious. We bought a Kenmore Elite Model 106.546.13300 2 years and 4 months ago when we built our new house. We arrived home from a 6 day vacation and the freezer side was not working and the fridge side was luke warm. Our hardwood floors were warped where the water, from the freezer, had leaked out and settled. All the lights work and it sounds like it is trying to get cold. I waited 12 hours and nothing. No ice. nothing.
I called Sears customer service.......there comment was "you should have bought and extended warranty". Here is my view. I pay $1700 for a fridge that I would think would work for more than 2 years.........more like 15. The Salesman said...."Oh it's an Elite, it will be the last one you own".
Well now I have lost hundreds of dollars in food and thousands to replace a floor.

Has anybody else had issues on this? Is this something common with these? Any ideas on issues before the Repair guy socks me for a thousand dollars to fix my fridge?
