Kenmore water leak - #253.63872300
Re-posting this thread with the model number info that Jake requested.
Water is leaking from the top of the refrigerator compartment and dripping all over the shelves. It leaks from the rear of the contraption that is on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment. It seems to be in the fridge section and not the freezer.
It is a Kenmore model with the freezer on top. There is no ice-making attachment.
Any advice on what could be causing such leak and how it may be fixed?
Thanks!

Hi Tatupu,
Sounds like it could be you need an upgraded ferrule, Here is a link that i posted on my blog that explains it some more:

There is a larger ferrule available for your refrigerator, the ferrule is a plastic piece that is inside the ceiling between the refrigerator and freezer. Helps it drain better.
Also if you remove the control panel's 4 screws, unplug the wiring harness and take a look at the white styrofoam vent pieces in the back you will more than likely see that one is warped which is allowing water to drip down. I seal that gap with some silacone and place some duct tape or aluminum tape over the gap also.
When you have the control down, squirt some water down the drain tube to make sure it is not restricted. If it is, they have a kit to run a new drain line.

Obtaining a new ferrule
Where do you all recommend I find that updgraded or larger ferrule? Do I need to order it on-line or can I pick it up at a store somewhere? Directly from the manufacturer?
Thanks and sorry for the ignorance.

You can get it from here, just click this link: Ferrule
Or you can try your local appliance parts store and ask for: ferrule, part#240365901

I have the same problem with a Kenmore/Sears Model Number 253.6184210a. We've checked the drain tube and tray and everything is working correctly, but we still get water dripping inside the fridge toward the back. Water collects towards the back of the top shelf.
We had some jack-leg warranty repair guy come out and he told me that we were missing a light cover inside, too much moisture was getting inside the freezer. So when the unit when through the defrost cycle the drain assembly was "overwhelmed" and leaked. So we had to order a light cover. The only problem is that it seems that one doesn't exist. All the parts diagrams I've seen doesn't show the mistery light cover.
Does this upgraded part mentioned work on my model of Fridge.

Hi,
There is no light shield for your model.
That ferrule should fix your problem with the water issue.
By chance are you in Canada?
I don't see any Sears Kenmore's with a alphabet at the very end of the model# here in Oregon.
