Good Morning techs,
Heres a puzzler. series 70 gas dryer (kenmore) Model # 110.72712101 When first started it will fire up, burner kicks in, runs for about 15-20 minutes, then burner stops will not fire up again. This is on highest setting. It will not cycle and make heat again, unless left to cool off for about 25 minutes, then runs and does the same thing. It works FINE on medium heat setting. Does this indicate a thermostat which only governs the "high" heat setting? These symptoms rule out the ignitor sensor, and coils I figure, just want to avoid throwing parts at it unneccesarily. Any help sincerely appreciated. |

This is a slightly odd one....when this happens, any reaction at all from the igniter? You can check that by removing the little plastic plug on the lower front left.
Other than that, I'm inclined to go along the same road as you're thinking. Your thermostat is one of these: ![]() Whirlpool part number 3387134. You can get some more info on how this works at http://www.applianceaid.com/thermo2.html |

update, after it heats up, and burner takes a break, the ignitor continues to cycle, and attempts to ignite about every 1 1/2 minutes. So this is leading me to think that its the coil not allowing gas to flow to the burner.
It if were a thermostat I dont think it would be cycling attempting to re-ignite. (at least that makes the most sense to me anyway) I dont think it would be heating the ignitor if the thermostat wouldnt be sending a signal that it wants to fire up again (right)??? After it cools for around 20 minutes, the whole thing starts over again. It heats, then fails to make heat until it cools again. |

It sounds like its the coils giving you the problem, When i looked up your model# i was surprised it didn't show the coils as a separate order, it just gave the part number for the whole burner/valve assembly Part#8318272 , that part is expensive, i know i have just replaced the coils separately many times on these Kenmore's.
You might try to take both coils off and take them to your local appliance parts store, they can match them up as a set. Jake

That's bizarre. Any decent appliance parts store should be able to sell you the coils for around $15-20.

Glad you got it fixed randyskier!
Yea, that was very bizarre, cause i know i carry those coils separately on my truck stock, probably just a oversight in the parts diagram. Thanks for the update, Jake
