Default New Kenmore cooling questions and Ice maker water flow.

OK, new to the forum but lots of good info. We just bought a Kenmore Coldspot (106.58966701) and it's our first SxS. We bought it at the Sears Outlet store for a good price and got it home Wednesday around noon. We did have to lay it down on it's back to fit in the truck, we left it in the garage for 2 days before we had a chance to install it due to the holiday. So it's been plugged in since Friday night and it dosen't feel all that cold. The freezer is cool but not cold. The metal cover over the coils on the botttom of the freezer are frozen but thats about it. I haven't heard a fan come on to blow the cold air around.

Also the water on the front door is working but no water in the ice maker, does the ice maker need to be a certain temp before water will flow into it?

Thanks Greg

Hi Greg,

You will need to contact Sears to have a tech. come out under warranty.

Sounds like your evaporator fan motor connector came loose or the motor itself is bad.

Thanks Jake. Should I have water in the ice maker? Or is the ice maker smart enough to know it's not cold enough and not allow water in?
Sears will be out on Wednesday.

Icemaker has a small thermostat that has to be below 30 degrees before even attempting to call for water.
Seems 97% of the new appliances I see with issues is usually something silly.

Well the tech came and went and he replaced the motor in the freezer area, the evaporator motor? But now it seems it dosen't shut off. My ice cream is like a fricken rock!!! I turned the temp to number 5 from 0 and it still won't shut off. It's like the North Pole in there. I haven't put much food in there could that be it?

Yea evaporator motor, the more food in the freezer the more the freezer will stay cold, thus making the fan motor run less.

Here's the evaporator fan motor for your model, in case others need it as well:

OK, I'm goining to load it up tonight and see what happens. I checked it this morning and it's the first time the motor has been off when I opened the doors. So I guess the temp sensor is working.
