Default Kenmore 665 - dead buttons and long cycle time

My Kenmore 665.15953000 dishwasher runs only on Normal Cycle. Other cycles no longer can be selected. Also the cycle is too long. Resetting the power and running the diagnostics did not fix anything. I suspect from reading other posts that either the Electronic Control (Part# 8269187) or the Console Assembly (8269754 - Graphite) need replacing. Is this correct? How do I know which one to replace?

Here are the details:
  • The cycle time is longer than it should be on Normal Cycle and the clock doesn't count down properly.
    • The main wash cycle that starts at about 75 minutes ran for about 23 minutes before the clock started counting down towards the next cycle.
    • The Sensing light is illuminated during the first 15 minutes or so. I can't remember if it stayed illuminated during the whole cycle.
  • Depressing the cycle selection buttons does not illuminate the red lights and does not select a cycle.
  • The Hi Temp Scrub, Sani Rinse, and AirDry buttons do illuminate when depressed.
  • The Cancel and Start buttons work properly.
Here's what I've tried:
  • I turned off the power to the dishwasher for some 30 minutes or so, then turned it on. That did not change anything.
  • I ran the diagnostic cycle; all the lights lit up in the proper order, everything seemed to work properly. Still the cycle buttons do not respond.
I'd appreciate whatever help anyone can give.

Thanks!

Hi,

First check your ribbon cable that connects the keypad assembly to the control board, we've had a few members say they have seen that get burned/bad spots in it and cause the dead buttons.

Here's the one for your model:
Manufacturer part#8269739 is RepairClinic item#906151

Here's the complete control panel which includes the ribbon cable:
Manufacturers Part# 8269754

Its much higher than your ribbon cable alone, so if the ribbon cable looks fine then you'll likely need this control panel assembly.

For the long cycles, your control board controls that, here's the one for your model:
Manufacturers Part# 8269187

Its not unusual to have both parts fail, I've seen this happen on a few I worked on as well.
