Thanks for all of the helpful info I've read thus far. My Kenmore Elite dryer (model # 110.64972300) has the same start button issue as I have read on here . . . it only stays on if the button is pushed (it does have heat though). I removed the front as described and I found NO burnt out places in the control board. My question is . . . does the control board have to have noticable issues before it goes bad? In other words, do you think this is my culprit? I don't want to purchase another control board, install it, and that not be the problem . . . and I certainly don't want to pay Sears to come out and diagnose a simple problem
. By the way, this issue has happened several times in the last couple of years and would start again after a few minutes. Now it won't stay on at all without pressing the button and holding it. Thanks for the help! |

Hi,
First unplug your dryer, then swap the heater relay#15 here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part...6203-00001.png with the motor relay#36, they are the identical same part. Then plug your dryer in and start it, if it runs and stays running after you release the push-to-start button, then you found the problem, you would need to order a new motor relay. Here's the motor relay for your model: Manufacturer's Number: 3405281 If after swapping the relay's and it still doesn't stay running after you release the push-to-start button, then you would need the control board. Here's the control board for your model: Manufacturer's Number: W10116565 Jake

I have a similar problem with a different dryer model and I'm wondering if the tests I can run and/or the solution would be the same.
Here's what I have: Kenmore Elite Model: 110.72954100 Serial: MM0304842 It has the same button issue, however in our case, I tried wedging something against the button to keep it running, but it DIDN'T heat up. Also, if the aforementioned solution would work, is there anywhere I can find a schematic or get info on where to locate the parts inside the machine? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Brian |

Hi Brian,
Yes, your model is identical are far as the inside parts are the same as johnckhall's model. Here's the parts list of the inside console: http://content.searspartsdirect.com/...3154-00001.png Here's how you get access to your inside console: ![]() http://www.applianceaid.com/whirlpool-dryers.html#four Jake

I got it open and swapped the Heater Relay with the Motor Relay. Still no luck...same issue. The motor runs when you push the button, but stops when you release the button. If you hold the button you get no heat. Do you think it could be the thermal fuse or are we looking at the controller board? I looked at the controller board and the other components to see if I could see any obvious damage and didn't see anything. I didn't take apart the body to get at the thermal fuse, so I can't tell if that's blown or not.
Thanks for your help. This is saving much time and money! |

No, if it was the thermal fuse, your dryer wouldn't even turn on at all.
Its likely the board thats out.Part#8546229 8546229Jake
