Default Kenmore 110.26902691 black junk in washer tub

I have a Kenmore washer 90 series, model no 110.26902691, that has black junk (NOT oil, NOT grease) coming out in small and big pieces from the washer drum holes. It looks a bit like mold, but it isn't slimy at all.

After seeing the black gunk, I ran the washer on "heavy duty" with hot water several times, first with added Oxyclean (that seemed to loosen up and get out a huge amount of gunk), and then several times with bleach.

What the heck is this stuff? Do I need to pull apart the washer and clean the other (inner) side of the drum? Just keep running hot temp loads until it clears? Could there be a clog in the drain pipe that is causing some sort of backup?

Hi,

Yes, thats just basic gunk that builds-up over the years.

You can take your inner spin basket out to clean all inside your plastic outer tub assembly.
