Default Washer won't spin or agitate

I have a Kenmore series 70 model # 110.20712990 that just makes a grinding noise when it reaches the spin cycle. It does drain the water, but sounds like my old VW bug after I played mechanic on it...... ANy help would be appreciated.

Default Photo of what I found by turning it on its side

WHen I moved the washer, I found a peice of white plastic beneath it. Being the "detective" I am, I turned the machine on its side and found a broken white "thing" I have no clue what I am looking at so I attached a photo. Hopefully someone can make an identification from what I have.

OK not fair...answering my own questions. The motor coupling was trashed, broken into peices. I will hopefully pick up a new set tomorrow. Is there anybody that thinks that this is the problem? or did I stumble across an unrelated issue?
THanks

Hi,

Your better than you thought, answering your own questions.

Yup, from that photo looks like your motor coupling is broke.

Here's the motor coupling for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 285753A
285753A

Read #2 and #5 here on how to access and change it:

Before you put the new one on, turn that gearcase shaft clockwise and counterclockwise to make sure its not locked it and turns fairly easy. I've seen gearcases lock-up and snap that puppy clean off.
