Default Kenmore Upright Freezer 253.926.0211

I have a Kenmore upright freezer model #253.9260211 serial #WB70101931.

Purchased new in 1997, worked fine until 2005. Then it just quit working. Didn't cool any more. Had another appliance issue so I had sears come out on both. The tech from sears looked at the freezer and turned it on. The compressor worked but no cooling. He told me that I must have a freon leak. He told me that my model was know to have problems with leaks in the tubing running up the sides of the freezer and that it would cost more to fix than what the freezer was worth. I paid almost $900.00 dollars for that freezer and it makes me mad every time I walk by it. Does his explanation sound right to you. I am really in need of another freezer but wonder about the cost to fix the one I have. Any thoughts you have would greatly be appreciated.

Yea, the tech. is correct somewhat, your Kenmore model is made by Frigidaire, and when I worked for Montgomery Ward Service, I ran into these alot with the same issue, They had alot of issues with the compressors overheating and causing the oil in the compressor to breakdown and get clogged in the capillary tube and evaporator, thus causing the compressor to still run, but no cooling.

When Wards went bankrupt, and Sears hired all the Wards tech. over to Sears Service, I saw the exact same problem with these Kenmore 253 models made by Frigidaire.

In the first 5 yrs. most compressors have a full warranty, but since yours is over 5 yrs. It would cost more to fix than its worth.

Whirlpool upright freezers are very reliable and its the least I repair.
