Kenmore Elite 665.15919000 won't drain
This unit stopped and won't drain. It will not start either. All the lights on the panel work and it is NOT locked. I shut the breaker off for 10 minutes and it didn't help.
I drained the water manually and the washer will now start to fill if I press start. It still won't drain when I press drain although the timer counts down.
Suggestions?
Added: No humming when pressing the drain button

Hi,
Please check your model# again, I can't get any info to pull up on that one.
It won't drain at all? Does it wash at least?

That's the correct number. Checked it twice. It' about 5 years old or so. It has a touch pad with a lock, sensor, ultra wash, quiet guard, GTS, ATC. It is a black front and stainless interior. It may have been a very "new" model at the time.
If I start a quick rinse, it fills, senses temp and then washes. It won't drain.

The float must work because it won't fill much if there is water in the washer already.

The first 3 numbers in your model# were 655, should be 665, I changed it for you in your first post.
I think the drain pump has failed. First, check your drain hose to see if it's blocked. If the drain hose is connected to a food disposer, check that end first. The drain pump (part# 661658) is about $55.

Thanks for the input and number fix. How hard us this to install?
I've done many such repairs bit worried about needing special tools.

Ok, its quite easy.
Its alot easier when you remove the front door panel, (makes more room).
Read Page#17 here:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf
Where it says:
1. Remove the eight (8) screws securing the outer door panel to the dishwasher door frame.
(Fig. 3-7)
Remove the outer door panel from the door frame.
Then you can get to the drain pump motor easy, read #21 were it says:
Removing the Pump Motor

Thanks Jake...
I have one question.....
Am I correct that I should her some humming if it were a simple blockage? I'm usually very sensitive about subtle sounds and clicks.
I can't imagine the unit senses a blockage before starting the pump.

Yes John, but if the drain motor is completely dead, it won't hum at all, thats why I always do a voltage check for 120 volts with a volt meter at the drain motor leads that connect to the drain when its in the drain cycle.
If you don't have a volt meter, Radio Shack sells cheap ones.

OK...
First of all, I received the part the next day even though I was told that it probably missed the cut off for the day. Super service!!!!!
Second, it was a breeze to change. I figured that I could skip the drain hose removal and just deal with the water coming out of the pump area. This caused about a quart of water to run all over. Not a big deal, but it would have easier to drain the sump via the drain hose into a shallow pan.
This was a well designed product.
Thanks to Jake and to the woman who took my order and expedited it.
John
