Default Kenmore Gas (Propane) Oven

Hi,
I have a Kenmore gas range, model #362-7596091. The oven decided to stop working and my diagnosis was that the ignitor was faulty.

I purchased a new ignitor, but for the life of me can't seem to get a good grip with a 1/4" box end wrench on the hex-head screws that are underneath the ignitor bracket!! I'm concerned that I will round off the heads and really be up a creek!!!

Can the burner tube be safely removed (and re-nstalled) so that I can get at the screws? I took it loose at the front of the oven and lifted it a bit to try and get a better grip on the screws without success, and I was reluctant to tug on it as I don't know how it is attached.

Thanks,
Brett

Hi Brett,

Yes, the burner tube can be safely removed and re-installed. Once you have it free in the front, you just lift it up and out, looks like on this one you have 2 screws in the back of the burner tube that need to be removed first.

Here's the oven burner tube for your model:

Hi Brett,

Those two screws have tormented service techs for 20 years even before electric igniters when they held the pilot assembly. If you're having a hard time with them then you're doing the right thing by taking out the manifold. You might still have to cut them off. Good luck.

Thanks guys! I REALLY appreciate your assistance and advice. I wasn't aware of the two screws holding the burner tube, so that was tremendous to learn!!!

I will soldier on and git 'er done. (I hope)!

Default Kenmore Gas (Propane) Oven

Hi Jake,
Great news!

I managed to squeeze into the oven (like a Thanksgiving turkey LOL) and remove the two screws holding the burner tube in place. And, miracle of miracles, I didn't drop either one! Amazing! Then, it came right up and out. I then removed the screws attaching the ignitor to the burner tube - I would have never been able to get them out w/o taking out the burner tube.

Now I need to put the new ignitor on, snip the wires, wire nut them (the appliance parts guy gave me two ceramic (?) wire nuts, stick that burner tube back in, and fire that bad boy up (not literally of course!) and bake some cornbread LOL

Thanks again, you all are great, couldn't have done this without your support.
Brett
