Default Kenmore Dryer Model 70 Heat Problem

I looked through the threads and haven't been able to get a handle if this problem is exactly like someone else's. I have a Model 70 Kenmore Heavy Duty Gas Dryer Model No. 110.76722691. It will run, but not produce any lasting heat. The ignitor will come on, the burner will light up, and then will go out about 30 seconds later never to return.

I have checked the burner assembly with an Multimeter and couldn't find any problems. It could be the thermostat, although I am not sure. I did check the thermal fuse, and it turned out to be okay. Any ideas?

Bill

Hi,

Always make sure you have good air flow coming out of the dryer exhaust vent. I always pull the dryer away from the wall and remove the exhaust hose or metal duct, and let the dryer air flow freely into the room, then start the dryer, if the gas stays on a long time, then that was the problem.

If the air flow is good then it sounds like the gas coils are bad,

Thanks for the reply. I already did the air flow check, having read previous posts that dealt with the same problem. I also vacuumed the unit out to clean it. It still does it, in all temp settings. The ignitor will glow, light the gas, and then about 30 seconds later the gas will click off. Is there any way to properly check the coils? Or do they sometimes go bad with no indication or visible fault?

I'll replace them to see if that does the trick.

With a Ohm Meter , you can Ohm the coils out, they will show continuity if they are good.

The coils check out fine. Is there anything else I could check that would cause the problem before I start replacing parts?

Okay, there's one item that has a reading that is bothering me; the cycling thermostat, part 3387134(the one located next to the thermal fuse), reads a closed circuit on the outside farther apart connections, but it reads a 005 on the inside ones(that are closer together). Could I have found my issue or is that a normal reading?

That sounds fine, if the cycling thermostat was bad, it won't even try to start the igniter glow bar.

After it goes off after 30 secs. Do you hear it try to come on again a few minutes later and just making some clicking sounds?

No, it doesn't do anything. But when I jump the temperature setting up, it will relight, then do the same thing, click off in about 30 seconds. The dryer will just continue to run normal until the end of the timed cycle.

I did order the coil valve kit, and I'll see if it will work out when it gets here.

Thats what i have been thinking, that the coils were bad, coils are the most common thing to go out on a gas dryer.
