Thread: freeze evap frozen

You would first want to put it into a defrost cycle, You have the adaptive defrost control board.

Read were it says:
For some Whirlpool refrigerators - some Kenmore refrigerators are made by Whirlpool ( 106.######## )

If after a few minutes your defrost heater comes on, then you know the problem is in your adaptive defrost control board.

i did that it did defrost then i turned it back on and it started freezing up in less than 5 minutes so it should be the controller right???

Jake I replace the defrost control and it start freezing up again but I am going to let it run its cycle to see what happens is that the correct thing to do

don't forget you have to completely defrost evap coils- with hair dryer if necessary before running unit again. then, when compressor is running make sure freezer fan is also- sometimes intermittant fault, need to check occasionally when compressor running to see if consistantly working. my brands all need manual defrosting with hair dryer when evap's solid, timed defrost's don't get to the center of evap. the heater runs along edges of evap, if too much ice, won't melt all and it has a head start for more build-up.

thanks I had the coiled defrosted with the hair dryer and it froze again i hav enever seen the evap fan run

Its going have a thin layer of frost on it at all times, its just when that thin layer of frost builds-up to a think clog blocking the whole evaporator coil, because the Adaptive control board never cycled it through any defrost cycles.

The evaporator fan should be running, try to turn the fan blade and see if it starts running, also feel the evaporator fan motor, to see if its hot.

I can spin the fan freely but it does not keep spinning the motor part of the fan is not hot at all

Ok, the next thing I would check to see is if your getting 120 volts to your evaporator fan motor when your compressor is running.

If you have a volt meter, just put the meter probes on each terminal of your evap. fan motor to check it.
