Good evening! I have a Kenmore sxs model 25359682990. My freezer is fine, at 0-ish degrees but my fridge is at around 60. We replaced the damper 1 year ago and it seems to be functioning OK when we pulled it out and put it in our other freezer and then took it out, the flap opens and closes correctly. We did have quite an ice build up over our coils in the freezer when it crapped out on us last week. Do you think it could be the defrost thermostat? I just ordered a new damper just in case but I would rather have to return it if it could be something else. We did unplug the fridge for a couple of days and left the iceburg defrost. We plugged it back in and we were back to the 0 and 60 scenario. We have not disassembled the top portion of the freezer at all, so I have no idea what is going on in there. Thank you!

Hi,
Do you feel any cold air coming out of your damper at all into your refrigerator section? Is the evaporator(freezer fan) running when its on? Do you hear the freezer fan running in your freezer? To test the freezer fan motor, you need to do a voltage check on it with a volt meter and see if you have 120 volts to it. Here's the freezer fan motor for your model: Manufacturer's Number: 5303917278 It seems to me that if you let the evaporator coil in your freezer defrost for 2 days, there shouldn't be any frost on them at all when you plugged it back in, thus it should cool perfectly, but it just sounds like your freezer fan isn't coming on to get that cold air from the freezer into your refrigerator section. To test the defrost thermostat, you need a volt/ohm meter and set it to ohms, then do a continuity check on it while its frosty. Here's the defrost thermostat for your model, in case you ever need to order it: Manufacturer's Number: 5303917954 Jake |
