kenmore 70 series electric dryer won't start
I have a kenmore 70 series dryer that won't start. It used to run for 10-15 minutes then shut off. After reading some of the blogs I decided I would replace the thermal fuse. Has brand new thermal fuse, never checked old one for continuity. Still nothing, checked cord and all wire connections, seem fine. (did not check voltage with meter because I do not have one) I also took apart the vent system and cleaned which was not bad or clogged for that matter. The motor was replaced from the repair man that I purchased it from. I bought it used. I am hoping that it is maybe the push start button and am looking for feedback to other possibilities. Also wondering if there is a way to test to see if push start button is bad.

Hi,
Whats the model# of your dryer? Its located inside the door.
Does it make any sound when you push the start button at all? Like a hum noise or grind noise?
You will want to ohm out(continuity check) that push-to-start switch, with a volt/ohm meter.
With the button pushed in, it should have continuity, with the button out, it shouldn't have continuity.
Make sure your dryer is unplugged first!

Thanks Jake.
I borrowed a meter and tested the old thermal fuse, which had continuity. so that was a waste. However, I tested the push start button and its showing it does not. I noticed there are 2 parts to this. 1) a normally open switch, which showed continuity, and 2) a normally closed which did not. I would of thought it was the other way. Normally closed having continuity and normally open not. Can you please shed a little insight to this.

I' am unsure of the model #
Head of dryer says Kenmore 70 series
behind the head says part no. 3977545
stamped on top part of dryer, not head, in rear of machine is 5957. This number is imprinted into the machine which would be behind the cover. I checked the door but it only has warning and caution signs.
I do have a wiring diagram but nowhere does it say model #
On very bottom it says Label No. 3406691 Rev. Rel
Hope this helps

I found a link that you've offered in the past as to where the model # may be located. I do not see it anywhere around or in the door. I did notice a block of numbers in the upper left corner behind the console, but I had to remove the timer in order to read them. they were 8271418. Hope this helps. If not, please remain calm I know that I must be able to give you something such as a part number to stear you in the right direction.

The model# tag should be just inside your dryer door on the top panel of the dryer drum opening.
None of those numbers you listed were any good.

Jake, Thanks for the assistance.
I am not finding a model #. I've scoured the entire machine, inside and out, including the inside of the drum. There is no sticker anywhere on this machione that would indicate a model # or serial #. I did purchase this machine used and am afraid it was either pulled off or fell off.
On another note, my push to start button has a few numbers
3395385
178 91 007
Hoping the latter of the 2 may be a model #
Thanks again for being patient. My wife and I have been searching for this model # for the past 2 months. I have taken practically the entire machine apart. Please Help!!

Ok, then its likely the model# tag got pulled off by someone else before you owned it.
That push-to-start switch number is good.
Ok, its very easy to test this, take the wires off the switch, put your meter probes on each terminal, you shouldn't read any ohms when its not pushed in. You should read 0 ohms when you push it in.
If your not getting those reading, order the push-to-start switch.
Here's the push-to-start switch for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 3395385

Well I guess the push strat button is good. It stays at OL not pushed and goes to 0 when pushed in. Any other tips?
Thanks again!
