Default Kenmore 665.16529000 Won't Drain

Hello I am new here but will be definitely bookmarking this site as it is a great resource from what I can tell. I came into this knowing nothing about taking apart a dishwasher, to being able to dismantle mine. However I still have not located what is causing my problem so I will ask the experts before continuing on.

Here is the model number of my unit:

The other day my roomate stopped the washer in midcycle because it was making some kind of weird noise he said. When he opened the washer it had water sitting at the bottom of the washer. We tried running the washer again to get it to drain but it would not. As you can see in this photo this model does not have a cancel to get it to force drain.

I than found this forum began reading through some similar posts about drainage problems and began trying to troubleshoot ours. I could not find any other posts here with my model number nor could I find a repair manual that matched my unit. The closest one that Jake had linked in another post that was similar but not the same as mine was https://secured.whirlpool.com/Servic...E/4322451L.pdf

As you can see my buttons are different and I do not have the tube that goes to the top tray. (This photo is without the lower spray arm and some of the easier to get off components)

This is what I am down to now without taking anymore apart.

That is where I am now with dissembling anything that looks easy to remove (and put back). Along the way I checked the clear drain tube leading to the garbage disposal. I removed the tube and ran water through one end and out the other fine so no clogs. I was able to drain the water from the tub by draining from the plastic nozzle the tube connects to, again water flows out freely. I turned the dial on the washer and it began pouring water into the washer. I turned it through the cycles trying to find where it "drains" and I get a click and than hear a buzzing hum noise come from the washer for 3 seconds and than that stops and nothing more. No water pumps out of the drain tube.

I than pulled off the tube again and manually drained the washer, and this time left the tube off with a small pan under the drain nozzle. I again cycled through the wash dial and water poured into the washer and than began coming out of the drain nozzle. So this leads me to think there is no clog in the system but just that the pump for draining isn't working.

From looking at some of the newer models and their drain problems it seemed like it would be possible that the drain motor or something was clogged and it sounds like it could be caught on something (the buzzing) and shutting off. However my washer is completely different inner workings and I am not sure how to find or service this further.

If anyone can help me with this problem and possibly a better repair manual (seeing as kenmore doesn't offer any). Also will the repair be worth it? I am semi handy to have gotten this far but I am no appliance repair man and don't want to have to get into much more taking this apart and screwing it up more.

Thank you any help is appreciated very much!

Hi,

This is a 2001 model dishwasher.

The problem is your pump/motor assembly has seized up, you would need a new one. You don't have a separate drain motor on your model, like the newer ones do.

But the cost pretty much out-weighs the price to fix it, as its a major part. Most dishwasher lifespans only go about 8-10 years now anyway.

So you may consider saving your repair money for a new dishwasher, or a good used dishwasher from a reputable used appliance shop in your area, that comes with at least a 30 day money back warranty.

Here's the pump/motor assembly for your model:
Manufacturer part number 8193511A is RepairClinic item number 1065702

thank you Jake for your fast reply and honest answer.

I figured as much when I examined the diagrams of this old style compared to newer ones that it would be the whole main motor and that being around $200.

Looks like we will be hand washing for awhile as we save up our pennies.

Thanks again!
