Question Kenmore Elite - New Humming Noise

Hey Now - We have a Kenmore Elite Model 665.16699 Dishwasher, and several days ago it started making a humming noise when it is washing.

I removed the kick panel below the door, and can hear the noise is coming from the bottom of the dishwasher. From inside, I removed the lower spinning spray arm, then removed the screen thing and cleaned the screen and the gunk and stuff that was below it. I did find a small rubber foot in there, and figured that must have been causing the noise. But now it's all back together and the noise has not changed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi,

Its possibly the motor assembly.

You'll likely need to pull the motor out from the sump and check it.

Here's the repair manual for your model:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf

Page 17 Read 1-4 where it says this:

SERVICING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASH TUB
Removing the Inner Feed Tube and
Lower Spray Arm

Then on Page 21 it starts to get into detail of how to access the rest where it says this:
Accessing Components of the Sump Assembly

Here's the motor assembly for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8534942

8534942

Thanks for the quick reply, Jake!

The manual at that link doesn't match up with my unit. The full part number for my unit is:

66516699200

According to Sears Parts Direct, the p/n for my motor is:

8535760

Do you think I can follow the instructions in that manual anyway, or is there another manual for my unit? This unit has the "concealed" control panel along the top edge of the door. When I bought it I was pretty sure that it was made by KitchenAid...

Thanks again,
John

No John, 8535760 is the motor, but you need the motor assembly which Includes volute, shaft seal, and impeller.

Trust me.

That repair manual is identical to yours, all Kenmore dishwashers starting with the model# 665. are made by Whirlpool.

Wink

Jake - Last night I was looking thru the manual and realized that the guts do in fact look like mine. I was going to send a follow-up, but you beat me to it!

Anyway, you're right, and I'll go ahead and use this manual to get the motor out and take a look.

Thanks a lot!!!

Thanks Jake....plan on diggin in to this tonight. I have a Kenmore elite 665.137XXX and as soon as it fires up, it has a very annoying hum to it. Getting close to the DW, the hum appears to be lower right corner....and it hums the entire time that it's on.

I was going to start with the chopper and ensure nothing is amiss there....your thoughts??

Great website...thanks a lot!

Brian

Hi Brian,

Can you post the complete model# of your dishwasher? The model# tag is located inside the door on the left or right side tub frame.

Does it do the same hum sound when you press the cancel button?
