Default 790 Ceramic Top Oven/Burners No Heat

Oddest thing. My fiance's Kenmore white ceramic stove/range won't heat. Neither the burners or the oven. But the digital display appears fine and all the various lights on the top work as well. I checked the dual circuit breaker and both 110 sides seem OK. What next?

My assumption is that there is some transformer or circuit board inside the thing that distributes power separately from the mains to the heating elements vs. the lights/display. How does one access this? (There is no obvious access from the top.) -Please- tell me this is a 'duhhhh' thing.

We can't find the owners manual anywhere. Is this available on-line somewhere?

Thanks,

---JC

Take the voltage measurement at the range where the power cord connects to it.

You need 240 for the burners and oven to work, your likely getting the 120 volts to power the lights and thats it.

Put your volt meter probes on the red & black terminal wires were the power cord connects to the range terminal block, should be red on one side, black on the other side, then in the middle you have white which is neutral.

Thanks. Next problem. This thing is not like a good ol' fashioned free-standing range. It's built onto a platform like a bathroom vanity. A big, heavy vanity.

I'm assuming the plug and the circuitry is accessed from the back, right? If so, how does one gain access to it? Do we have to take it off the platform in order to do this? If so, how do people who aren't bodybuilders do so? Is there a special 'repairman trick'?

TIA,

---JC

Ok, then yes, thats a problem. There is a special range lift cart that appliance repair shops use to take it out for these super heavy ones, but you would need 2 people to take it out and sit it on a lift cart.

You can try to get your family or friends to help you take it out, but I'd recommend having a reputable appliance repair company do it for you, for safety reasons.

Thanks. I'm going out there to look at it today.

FWIW: Here are some specifics:

Model 790.45074400
Serial NF40316883

Can it be something else? Is there a resource for owner's manuals on-line?

Thanks!

This just in.... My fiance' claims that her teenage boy -sat- (!?!) on the top of the range the night before it happened. His backside mushed down on the clock/timers in the center of the thing.

Could this have something to do with it? IOW: Does the power go directly into that clock/timer module for distribution? Is this something we can replace ourselves from the top?

TIA,

Yes, the teenage boy sitting on it may have damaged the control board, but the only thing is, the control board controls the oven, so the burners on top should still work, unless he shorted something out when he sat on it.

Thats why its very important to check the voltage to the range before ordering parts that you may not need.
