Unhappy [FIXED] Kenmore Series 90 Dryer stops after 10-20 minutes of drying

Hi,

Need some help here. I have a Kenmore Dryer model number 110.66902691

When I start a drying cycle the dryer will start and seem to run fine for 10-20 minutes. Then it will quit. It will not restart, but it will buzz when the start button is pressed. If I wait overnight, it will start again, but run only a few minutes again before shutting down. Any instructions of what to check and how to access it would be very much appreciated.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Everything comes out through the front, here's a link to show you how:

Smile Thanks

Jake,

Thanks. I had a thought it might be the motor. My wife thought maybe a fuse since her mother described something similar and said it was a fuse in her dryer. But after reading posts on this site it sounded to me like any fuse that went out would cause the dryer not to function at all.

I just ordered the part. Thank you for directing me to a place I could get it for even less then your site.

Thank you as well for the link to the instructions. I will post again if I have any more questions when the motor comes and when the project is complete.

Yes Kevin, if it was the thermal fuse, then the dryer wouldn't come on at all.

Yes, the new motor should fix it.

Let us know how it goes.

Question can't loosen motor from blower

Jake, or whomever can help me:

The instructions you linked me to have been okay so far (except I had a few more screws to loosen than the instructions indicated). But I have run into a snag. The instructions say in order to loosen the motor from the blower a 1/2 inch socket extension is used. I do not have that size of sockets. I have tried various other methods to try and loosen the motor from the blower. All I have to show for it though are a few bruises, including me ego. Any thoughts about any other methods I can use to unscrew the motor from the blower?

Default some pictures

Here are some pictures that show where I am at and how the motor is connected to the blower.

Here is an overview shot of where I am at:

Here is top view of how the motor connects to the blower

Here is the front of the blower unit. The hole in the center is where I was supposed to put the 1/2 inch socket extension.

And a close up of the front of the blower showing how I mangled the "square" hole a bit as I tried different methods to keep the blower from turning while I used a pipe wrench on the pulley end of the motor.

Thanks for any help you can give me so I can get the motor separated from the blower.

Ok Kevin,

I was going to mention that sometimes that blower wheel is really on your motor shaft to stay, unfortunately.

I've had a few I've had to break off and get a new blower wheel.

Jetdoctor1 used a drill on his and it worked:

Yes, its a hell of a job if that blower wheel won't come off, don't let it get you down, you will get it!

Here is a new blower wheel for your model:

Cool one more thing

Jake,

First, I must tell you, I got the motor in one day!!! And only paid for standard shipping!! Thanks! I was greatly and pleasantly surprised.

Well, I got the blower disconnected from the motor. You inspired me to try harder! I don't think it broke either, because I got the new motor on and screwed the blower wheel onto the motor. It seems tight to me.

Here is the one possible problem: I had trouble getting the second clip off the motor (the one that holds it down). It broke on me. here is what it looks like:

Do I have to use both clips to hold the motor down? And if so, where can I get one?

It felt so good to get that blower unscrewed successfully, only to have that clip break on me. Now, I suppose I'll have to wait a couple days before I can put the dryer back together. And I was so hopeful I could surprise my sleeping wife (as if she could get any decent sleep with me right outside the bedroom door with the shop vac roaring and me banging the sides of the dryer with pipe wrenches).

Yup Kevin, thats happened to me too a few times, but not as much as the blower wheel not coming off.

Yes, its best to have both good clamps on the motor, just to be on the safe side.

Here's the motor clamp for your model you can order:

Jake,

Unfortunately, I live too far from Canton to make the trip. But I decided that to surprise my wife was the most important thing. I straightened the clamp as well as I could and put the broken side on first and the other side was just as hard to snap on as the good clamp. It looked and felt secure; the clamp wasn't moving and the motor was pretty stable. So I put the whole thing back together and tried it out and it worked! It is hard to believe that in only 40 hours I went from broken down dryer, finding your site and paying only 5 bucks to get such great help and fixing the dryer myself (never had opened one up before). A big thanks to you!
