Default Kenmore Elite 665.16933000 won't drain after washing

I'm new here, found this by Google. I have a 2002 Kenmore Elite dishwasher that occasionally will not drain after a wash cycle. It is becoming more frequent. I can hit the cancel/drain button 2-3 times and it will eventually drain. I have disconnected the drain from the disposal inlet, and applied suction via a ShopVac, and water flows, so I don't believe there is a blockage in the drain. After reading several posts, I'm theorizing that my chopper may not be functioning due to worn splines on the motor shaft, and blocking the inlet to the drain pump. I am planning on disassembling the sump to take a look. I'm currently unemployed, so the prospect of buying a new motor assembly is not very appealing, but neither is having an $1000 dishwasher not working. Is there a way to "patch" fix the shaft, maybe completely fix the shaft to the blade assembly? I have some industrial plastic epoxy that would probably do the trick. Would this cause any problems for the unit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Very good questions, I know your on a tight budget, and I don't think this question has ever come up yet. But I don't see why you couldn't use the epoxy.

Lets see if another member that sees this thread can reply if they've done the same with success.

Too bad no one else seems to have done this. Also, is there a way to replace the shaft assembly? From one of the diagrams I saw, it looks to be possible.

I just checked the parts diagram and it shows that as well, but when I pull up the part# for it, it converts to the motor assembly which includes the shaft assembly. I guess they discontinued it just separately.

Is there a trick to get the cover off that covers the chopper? I have the screw removed, but i can't get the cover to lift off.

Well got the cover off with a little persuasion. To my surprise, not a lot of debris near chopper like I was hoping and the chopper blade seemed to engage the shaft and turn. Did replace the check valve, the old worn one was in two pieces. Re-assembled the unit, but it still wont drain. I can hear it try to suck to drain, but that's it.

If your 100% sure there's not a clog in your drain hose or your drain outlet where it into the sink or garbage disposal, then you have a clog in your sump somewhere, you will need to pull the sump/motor assembly completely out of your dishwasher, then remove your motor, and see where the clog is.

Take the drain hose off from your sink or garbage disposal, if you have it connected to a air gap first, remove it from that as well, get a bucket then turn it on drain and see if water comes out.

Should I also disconnect the drain under the kick panel to see if it comes out there too?
